The Qatar Digital Library (QDL) Project is funded by the Qatar National Research Fund (QNRF). QNRF was established in 2006 by His Highness Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, Emir of Qatar, and is chaired by Her Highness Sheikha Mozah bint Nasser Al Missned.

QNRF, a member of The Qatar Foundation for Education, Science and Community Development, aims to advance knowledge and education by providing support to researchers. QNRF administers funding for original, competitively selected research. It fosters collaborations within academia, and through public/private partnerships. Although QNRF actively seeks internationally recognized researchers, it is also dedicated to funding research that additionally meets the needs of the people of Qatar. The IMSE project is funded through its National Priorities Research Program.

Leveraging Expertise

Lead by a team of experts from Pennsylvania State, Virginia Tech, Texas A&M and Qatar University, this one of a kind project builds upon the state-of-the-art in digital library solutions and extends them further to support Arabic collections.

Researching Solutions

Research is at the heart of this project and the support of the Qatar National Research Fund gives us the widest possible access to information that would otherwise have been impossible to attain.

Knowledge Society

Tailoring digital libraries to the unique needs of Qatar requires community building along with scholarly activities. Through this project, we envision an institute that will work towards the ultimate goals of building a Qatari Knowledge Society.
